un warm up es en algunos casos, aparte de todo lo que dicen arriba, una oportunidad que tienen muchos djs que estan esperando dar el "gran salto", sobretodo cuando les toca hacerlo para uno que ya esta consagrado.

All so true!!

From this everything follows , you want to do a good warmup for the main Dj, you want to help make the night the best possible to share with everyone . And because you do, it will happen.!!
In practical terms, do your research well. Ideally, get to know the headliner. The job of the warmup Dj is to put the club in the right place for the him. Leave your set at a point where the headliner can start seamlessly. This doesn't mean your set is any the less. It still needs to be a set that is good in it's own right.
I've always considered we have some amazing warmup Djs here in Melbourne in particular, but I have to say I have been blown away by some of the Argentinean warmup sets I've heard. It really does seem to be an art form there.

Some of my favourite sets from the last year have been Argentinean warmup sets. Would be so good to actually hear them in your clubs
As far as a prog dj being asked to warmup for a trance Dj, this probably isn't that likely to happen except perhaps when it is a club residence. Fortunately there is a quite a bit of reasonable prog trance out there

The other way around would be a lot harder.
Clubber perspective here, but I do really love to dance, and I do turn up early for good warmup djs
