To coincide with this week’s Miami Music Week/Winter Music Conference, Bedrock today released its Underground Sound Of Miami compilation to give everyone a taster of what the label will be serving up at its parties. The 10-track-strong collection, which is currently exclusive to Beatport, features tracks and remixes from production supremos such as Robert Babicz, Guy J, Wehbba, and Pig & Dan, whilst introducing us to new talents such as Sirenize, Maher Daniel, and Casa. Tech-house and techno are the order of the day here with Bedrock’s Miami picks. Here, label boss John Digweed takes some time out from his Miami preparations to talk us through the compilation’s tracks in more detail.
Sirenize - Everybody “Everybody” has a great groove, with its swung percussion and rolling bass, and really helps set the mood for the night ahead. I have been playing this for the past few months quite early on in my sets and it never fails to create the right vibe.
Stelios Vassiloudis - West “West” is another nice piece of deep tech-house from Stelios Vassiloudis, with some lovely warm melodic chords in there. Another perfect track to set the tone for your set or mix.
Robert Babicz - Echoes From The Past I’m a huge fan of Robert’s productions, and we’ve been fortunate enough to release some if his music on Bedrock. “Echoes From The Past” is full of luscious melodies that drive the track from start to finish and leave you feeling like you have been on a journey through the music.
Sasse, Stelios Vassiloudis - Benedict After the release of ”The Z” late last summer, it was great to find out Sasse and Stelios had teamed up again and created “Benedict.” Another great techy number from the guys, which has an awesome drop that never fails to work on the floor before kicking right off again.
Guy J - Nightstalker Guy never fails to deliver quality tracks, and “Nightstalker” is no exception. Subtle grooves lead to melodic washes that just build and build throughout this track, and it always gets great reactions.
Maher Daniel, Casa - Music, Machines & Life After turning out a massive remix of ”Rumblefish” for us a few years ago, it’s great to be working with Maher Daniel again. This track has a hugely hypnotic effect that just seems to lock the crowd into a groove.
Wehbba - Motone Wehbba’s “Motone” is a solid percussive tech-house workout that has gone off in every club I’ve played it at since I got it.
Pig & Dan, Mark Reeve, Dean Demanuele - Machines Pig & Dan are another one of my favorite production teams, and have been for a few years now. They consistently deliver the goods, and “Machines” is a another quality deep-and-dark tech-house offering from them, this time teaming up with Mark Reeve and Dean Demanuele. Keep an eye out for more from them coming soon on Bedrock.
Electric Rescue - Dope Electric Rescue‘s “Dope” was one of my biggest records of last summer, and it’s an absolute pleasure to have this track from him on this release as well as another EP that will be due out soon on Bedrock.
Dosem - How Do You Do It After remixing the 100th Bedrock release, we have been keeping up to date with Dosem, and I’m really glad to be putting out another release from him. “How Do You Do It” is a great peak-time track that utilizes melodies in just the right way, hitting just the right spots but still staying underground.
